Tanqueray Bloomsbury

I'll be honest with you, I am a huge fan of gin and all the wonderful ones that are introduced are always fun to try. The company that I hate to admit that always knocks it out of the park is Tanquerey. Anyone who reads this rambling blog knows I usually try to focus on people who don't get enough love, but doggone it Tanqueray has done it again. This Bloomsbury is delicious. All of their limited editions have been fantastic and Bloomsbury follows suit. What can I say that hasn't already been said about it--nothing. Try it if you get a chance, Tanqueray Bloomsbury makes a stunning Martini and if you happen to be the stock up and hoard type, you might want to grab a couple.

Here are some links to others commentary on it:
My buddy Matt wrote about it here (click on the awesome quote): "My first reaction when hearing about “Bloomsbury” was wondering if it was a mashup of Bloom County and Doonesbury. Opus the Penguin and Uncle Duke crafting a gin? Yes! Yes!"

Fuenteseca Tequila in Fortune Magazine . . .

So, I was cruising around on facebook and I saw a post on the Fuenteseca page about them being mentioned in Fortune Magazine
I had written about Fuenteseca Tequila when the first releases came out, here . . .  and I haven't had a chance to try the 21 year so I was excited to read about it.
Tracking down the article was difficult (it's not online yet), but I found it. Not a lot of info so I went hunting elsewhere and here are some things I found:

Very detailed info on each expression at the Haas Brothers website.

And speaking of EACH EXPRESSION check out this restaurant El Camino in Delray Florida!
That is awesome! You can try all of them, in one flight, for $200. Each one with a detailed write-up. I wish I was near Delray Florida!

I found a couple other articles, one here at Drink Me . . ., another at The Robb report written by my friend Nicolas Palazzi good reading for sure.

Check out Fuenteseca Tequila on facebook... or on Twitter.

Miami Rum Renaissance 2015!

It is only a couple of weeks away, but you can still make it!
Every year I go and it is always one of the highlights of my year.

There is a competition going right now and everyone wins, but you could win big! It is called "Name That Rum". Basically, there are pictures of 3 Rum Label and you guess the brand names, check it out here:
Play "Name That Rum" right now.

Oh the discount tickets are filling in fast at the host hotel and Friday is the last day (if they don't run out first), so go here "to get your Discounted Hotel Rooms for Miami Rum Festival".

I know I gush every year about how great this event is, but this year I am just going to post some links and let you see for yourself.

Here is a cool video by the legendary Jochen Hirschfeld:
Want to see how much fun?
Quite a lot here also . .
There are going to be so many new rums from all over:
This year Rum Fest is happening in conjunction with Miami Cocktail Week!
Too many photos, too many stories, you'll have just come on by!

I hope I see you there!

Barrell Whiskey Batch 001
Wow, this is tasty Whiskey!
The only reason this is listed as "Whiskey" instead of "Bourbon" is because it was aged in used barrels. Still this stuff is fantastic (see, I have the empty bottle for proof!).

I had gone through a couple of tastings, made some notes and then proceeded to write some proper tasting notes. So at this point in my process, I usually check out other write-ups just to compare, make sure I am adding something new or some insights. I came across this on their website, and I was flummoxed. That didn't sound at all like what I was tasting?
So I grabbed my bottle (the one pictured) and immediately saw the difference. I should have actually been reading this:
Now that was more like it. As a matter of fact, those tasting notes freaking nailed it! Those notes were so close to mine that I am not even going to add anything to them. (They were written by my good friend Warren Bobrow .
One correction though: "The mash is a mix of corn, rye, and malted barley. Akin to a “Vatted Malt,” no neutral grain spirit is added." This statement is kind of confusing. "Vatted Malt" is a term used by Scotch makers to connote a blend of  multiple single malts from various distilleries. This whiskey is made from "Small Batch" of barrels that were married together after aging (I would guess around 10 barrels--which is a very small batch). The mash bill they were distilled from is basically the same as bourbon, but it can't be called bourbon unless it is aged in new American oak (this was aged in used American oak).
So all in all-Wonderful whiskey. Lively, fresh rich flavors, great price point, limited availability. Go for it!

Cimarron . . . and the deal of destiny....

So I told all of you about Cimarron Tequila way back in 2013 and lamented that it was "near" impossible to find in a retail store, but then I saw this: Cimarron Blanco 1 Liter for $15.99 !!! at K&L . . HUZZAH!!! and the Reposado 1 Liter for $21.99!! BANG!

This is obviously limited, and easily an AT LEAST $10 saving . .so I had to tell you, I had to.

Now, I am not the only one that loves Cimarron... Taste Tequila Rated it #1 Tequila under $30 and included it in their list also!

For fun here is a video where a local news show in Houston compared Patron Silver to Cimarron and Cimarron won:

Happy Anniversary! This blog is 5 years old!

5 years... this is something to celebrate!

I will be posting more regularly (as soon as I figure out how).
I have received a fresh bunch of things to review (one of the reason my blog got quiet) so that will give me some things to talk about.
I moved back to an area where I can receive samples in the mail, so if you have any. . .email me at:

There are amazing events coming up that I will be attending... so I will talk about them as much as I can (some I review for magazines so I can only be vague here in the no pay zone).

I might throw some cocktail / restaurant / bar reviews in here too... I don't know, but I am going to try and do more posting.

So Happy Birthday Blog...
