La Chona - Tequila Tuesday!

I am going to share a drink created by m
y good friend Joseph Valdovinos (of Playground) that I found on the ArteNOM facebook page that features Tequila ArteNOM Seleccion 1580 (click the link to see my write-up) and Calisaya liquor (click the link to see the quick write up I did).

So Joe wanted to do a take on a Champs Elysee cocktail swapping the Brandy for Tequila and Chartreuse for Calisaya--NAILED IT! This drink is fantastic. I had already used Calisaya and ArteNOM 1414 in a cocktail (called the Selection-click it if you want), so I knew they would be a great team, but this drink is so much more fresh and vibrant.
To add a even more fun to the drink Joe named it after a song that is seriously playful, about a girl who is the life of the party--just like this drink... so here is:

La Chona.

1 1/2oz. ArteNOM 1580
1/2oz. Calisaya liqueur
1/2 oz. Fresh Lemon juice
1/2oz. Simple syrup
3 dashes house Bitters (or 1 dash angostura bitters)

Mezcal Monday: Ivy Room- Apocalypto!

I was reminded of this drink because of a post on the Mina Real facebook page. I was up in the East Bay, Albany in particular, and it by the way--it was happening at the Ivy Room!

Ronaldo (owner /operator at The Ivy Room) made this drink, and it was AWESOME! Graciously, he shared the recipe, but I have been having the hardest time finding La Mestiza Liqueur, so I guess you'll have to do what I did and go to The Ivy and have it!

I wrote about Mina Real Silver here . . . and the La Mestiza Licor is a 'Nance' liqueur made by the good folks a D'Aristi. Nance is a flavor that is hard to pin down... mango, passionfruit (way less acidity), cantaloupe, casaba . . .like I said - - tough-to-pin-down! I have not had this liqueur straight (in my arrogance, I thought I could find it, after I had this lovely drink at the Ivy--but I FAILED), in the drink it is a juicy song of complexity and balance.

Without further 'ado' here is the recipe, created by the master himself. Ronaldo Colli:

1 1/2 Oz Mina Mezcal.
1/2 La Mestiza liqueur
2 dashes of orange bitters
1 Lemon peel
In a bucket glass pour Mina Mezcal, la Mestiza liqueur, bitters and ice to the top, stir and garnish with lemon peel rimmed around the glass.

When you try it, think of me . . .
